Irish Music

St. Patrick’s Day is almost as bad as Christmas. They are holidays with very serious musical traditions. I don’t know when St. Patrick’s Day became a dynamic cultural event. I don’t think either holiday would be as socially significant if it wasn’t for the music. Christmas would have less magic without the songs. I doubt that St. Patrick’s Day would be a blip on the calendar if it wasn’t for the foot-stomping, feel-good, musical catalog. When the first day of March rolls around, I throw out everything that I normally do. I focus on an entirely new repertoire that is suitable for the holiday. When it’s over, I go back to my normal stuff. I’m not complaining. I love this genre. I learn a couple of new songs every year. It is fun music. A good song has so much power. I understand how this holiday became universally popular.
