Hamstring

I tweaked my hamstring. It’s not serious but I am unable to go from a sitting position to standing without making embarrassing noises. Old man noises are a necessary evolutionary development. They are nature’s way of separating the boys from the men.

When I was ten years younger, a minor injury like this one would have required three days to get back to normal. I would have stretched out and been good to go. At my current stage in life, I know that I might be walking without a noticeable limp in 5-7 months. Eventually, I will learn to live with this affliction. But from now on, every time it rains my leg muscles will tighten up to remind me that I will never again be whole.

When I was younger, an injury like this could have occurred while climbing something, running a long distance, or performing some masculine feat of strength. I have no idea how I injured myself this time. My best guess is that I stood up too fast when headed to the kitchen for a snack.
