The proper care of a cast iron pan is fairly minimal. As long as you regularly cook some bacon, the metal stays good and greasy. Occasionally, a cast iron pan requires some help to keep it functional. You need to rub the pan with your favorite high temperature oil and bake it until it gets a nice shine.
I have been neglecting one of my cast iron skillets. In case you are keeping score at home, I used avocado oil. I properly cured my pan but I didn’t realize that all of the oil hadn’t been absorbed. Yes, this means that I used too much oil. I spilled burnt oil onto my pants. I smell like the funnel cake stand at a county fair. Those pants will never be the same.
