Asparagus

It’s stinky pee season. AKA, asparagus season. I have a very small asparagus patch in my garden. It is one of my most prized possessions. It doesn’t produce a ton of asparagus but it’s enough to provide a special treat during a couple of weeks every spring. I find it hard to believe that there are people who don’t enjoy asparagus. It is culinary perfection.

I recently found out that some people don’t get stinky pee after eating asparagus. It’s a genetic thing. There is a gene that determines whether a person will have stinky pee as a result of eating asparagus. There is a second gene that determines whether you are able to smell asparagus pee. It is genetically possible to produce stinky pee as a result of eating asparagus and not be able to smell it. Humans are so weird.
