Most guitar guys have too many guitars. They have guitars hanging on every wall. They have guitars in cases leaning in every corner. I am not that type of guitar guy. You can only play one at a time.
I have one main guitar that I use for most of my gigs. This guitar has been my main squeeze since 1999. About ten years ago, this main guitar became temporarily out of commission due to a neck issue. I was in a pinch and needed a guitar to play for a gig. If I was a regular kind of guitar guy, I would have had an extra guitar leaning in the corner and I wouldn’t have been in this tight situation. I found a guitar that I liked in a local consignment store and traded an amp for it. This beauty was a vintage Applause with an aluminum neck. It was an unconventional guitar that was in great shape. The aluminum neck is not common. It is fun to play and has a different kind of vibe. The problem is that the frets are not replaceable and they are starting to get pitted and worn. Certain chords can’t be played without a lot of buzzing. This has become a guitar that I don’t need. It isn’t fun to play anymore. It’s been leaning against the corner in its case. It was a beautiful guitar and I appreciate that it had my back when I was in a pinch. I would show you a photo but I sold it this afternoon. That corner looks so empty.
